Sure Could Have Fooled Me...

...Jerry West had a nice personal undefeated streak in the Los Angeles Lakers' lineup at the end of the 1970/71 season, and on to next season. The Lakers missed him in the 1971 playoffs and early (At times) in the 71/72 season. It was the Milwaukee Bucks that took apart the Lakers in just five games in the playoffs of '71, with the new force, a centre by the name of Jabbar, serving notice. Nine games into the next season, another blow for the Lakers. Elgin Baylor retired. But then the historic 33-game winning streak began. But when #44 was in there, it was longer!

But the Lakers were, get this, 42-0 over the course of the ending of the 70/71 season and the first 39 games of the next with Jerry West in the lineup. The streak helped Jerry get that elusive world title that had eluded him. Of course, he got some help by a chap named Chamberlain, who gave up scoring to work on some serious D. For Wilt, it was his second crown. The Lakers, by the way, finished with a then-record 69-13 record. The Bucks went down in six in the conference finals, and then the New York Knicks were pushed aside in five in the finals.
