Leave The Ball To Lee Smith In 1983, Part 1

Although only 4-10 in 1983, Lee Smith was one of the most dominating closers of the 1980s and early 90s. In the 1990s alone, Lee lead the league in saves three times, including the strike-shortened 1994 season. The first time Smith was the leader in saves was aforementioned 1983. And there was more to Smith than saves that season.

Lee completed a NL-leading 56 games and topped over 100 IP for the second straight season (He'd throw 100 IP in 1984, too). Opponents managed just 6.1 hits per 9 IP.
