Tekulve: An Omission? Part 1

I guess I should have known!

How could I leave out Ken Tekulve?

In a previous entry, I tried to come up with the "best relief seasons ever", to compare to John Hiller's 1973 season. But I left out Ken Tekulve!

For those too young (Now, I shouldn't be saying that, since I wasn't born until 1980) to remember him, this guy taking the hill, again and again!

Pitching for the Pirates in the 70s and 80s, he had several good years. In 1979, he became the first pitcher to record 3 saves in one World Series since Elroy Face did in 1960. Must be something about being a Pirate in a World Series!

The glasses, the submarine-style, Kenny's thin frame. You couldn't miss him closing it out!

Okay, so his comparable year is 1979. All Ken Tekulve did was save 31 games, win 10, post an ERA of 2.75. He also pitched 94 games and finished 67 of them. He also tossed 134.1 innings pitched, his second highest total. He also registered 8 holds.

Oh yeah, he helped the Pirates win the World Series that season!

But how about his stats? One thing I'll say, Teke was used the most of anyone on this list!
