It Don(ned) Apon Me That Mossi Was Once A Relief Artists!

I always thought of Don Mossi as a starter on the Tigers' teams of the early 60s. They were in the shadow of the great Yankee teams of that era. But earlier, in 1954, Mossi was on a team that not only won the pennant, well ahead (Eight games) of the Yankees, but also won 111 games. The Cleveland Indians were awesome in 1954, with Early Wynn, Mike Garcia, Bob Lemon, Bob Feller and Art Houtteman as the starting five. So awesome that Feller was reduced to the #4 role. And while Ray Narleski had 13 saves, it was Mossi as the top bullpen man. Don posted a 1.94 ERA and seven saves of his own.
