Griffith Owned The 'Pen In 1905, Part 1

Clark Griffith is best remembered as the owner of the ill-fated Washington Senators teams during the teams long losing years. But as a pitcher, he owned a 219-132 record through the 1903 season. And then he moved to a spot where he was pitching less. But he got some bullpen time

So Griffith, pitching for the old New York Highlanders in 1904, flourished. He still started eleven games, and relieving five other times. Clark went 7-5 with an ERA of 2.87. The next two seasons saw him get bullpen action a-plenty!

But it's The Old Fox's next season that gives him a place on my list. Griffith pitched in 25 games, but only 7 of them were starts. He finished 17 of the 18 games he relieved. His ERA dropped to 1.68, and won 9 games, too. Clark might not have been an owner of a baseball team that season, but he owned some pretty good stats.
