Nothing Rusty About Russ In 1947!

The Philadelphia Athletics actually finished two games above .500 in 1947, but only had three good starting pitchers. Their closer, however, was Russ Christopher. Russ had a great season for the A's in '47, as he reached double figures in wins and saves. Add to that a pretty good ERA and allowing a career low 7.8 hits per nine, and Christopher was right up there with Joe Page and others. Russ actually saved more games (17) the following year, but his wins and innings pitched dropped, as did his games finished. So while it might have been splitting hairs on which was his grander season, I'll go with Christopher's 1947 season for my list.
