You Don't Want To See Lindsey In 1931

So it is Jim Lindsey, another rather obscure player who finds his way on my list. But his ERA of 2.77 was more than 100 points less than the National League average in 1931 (3.86). Plus, I found Jim to be more of a "true" reliever than many of the pitchers back then. Jim started only two games for the Cardinals in '31. St. Louis won the World Series that year, and Lindsey pitched twice against the Philadelphia A's. He was not quite as effective as he'd been in the regular season, or in the previous Fall Classic. The Cards, nonetheless, won it all.

During the regular season, Jim won six games and saved another seven, helping out St. Louis' starting rotation (And even contributing a shutout in one of his two starts). That WHIP though, well it's not good.
