Olin Had A Bright Future Ahead Of Him, Part 1

Normally, when I add a reliever to my list, it's fun to play around with his numbers and compare him to others.

But then there is Steve Olin.

In 1992, Steve really hit his stride on the hill for the Cleveland Indians. He'd dropped his ERA from 3.75 (In 1989, his rookie year), to 3.41, to 3.36, and finally, 2.35 (In 1992). Olin posted a career-best 29 saves in '92, and seemed to have the closer position all wrapped up for many years to come.

But it was not to be. On March 22, 1993, Steve Olin and Tim Crews (Another Cleveland pitcher) were killed in a boating accident in spring training. Steve was only 27 at the time. Cleveland was on their way to a World Series appearance in 1995 and 1997. We are left to wonder what Steve could have contributed.

But for 1992, Steve finished 62 of his 72 appearances. He won 8 games.
