Olin Had A Bright Future Ahead Of Him, Part 2

Steve Olin, in what turned out to tragically be his last MLB season in 1992, saved 29 of 36 games. While not necessarily great, it was a good improvement on his '91 campaign. He only saved 1 game in 1989, his rookie season. 1990 saw Steve get just one more save, but then he made the jump to 17 (In 22 opportunities) in 1991. So the next season was really a breakout.

And then there was Olin's ERA. It was a career-best 2.34 in 1992. He allowed just 80 hits in 88 1/3 IP. Steve walked just 2.8 batters per 9 innings. He was really was coming.

And we'll never know how much better he could have gotten but for that fateful day in the spring of 1993...
