Nelson Earned An "A-Plus" In 1990, Part 2

Gene Nelson wasn't going to be the closer on the 1990 Oakland Athletics, but that didn't mean he wasn't a big contributor to the bullpen that year.

Dennis Eckersley was slamming the door shut on opposition in the ninth all season long, but Gene was helping to get such opportunities. Nelson did get five saves himself, but I've got some more impressive numbers for you.

Holds, you ask? Nelson had 18. It was to be his career-high. How about his ERA? It was 1.57. Nelson's WHIP was also outstanding, 0.964.
