Pedro Paid His Dues, Part 2

Pedro's second set of statistics may not include a whole lot of saves, but that doesn't mean he didn't have quite a season on the hill in 1993.

Starting all of just two games that year, Pedro still managed to post a 3.0 wins above replacement. And there were plenty of strikeouts. 119 in his 107.0 innings of work. The opposition got just 76 hits off him during all that. His 57 walks must have been a concern, as it made his WHIP high, 1.243. The other downside to all this is Martinez managed just 2 saves. However, Pedro added 14 holds.

In 1994, Pedro Martinez had a new home. He was on the Montreal Expos. And he was in the starting rotation. Pedro went 11-5 for the Expos that year. Save for three more relief appearances, the rest of his major league career would consist of pitching from the first inning on.
