It Ran In The Worrell Family, Part 1

Well, Todd Worrell certainly put together an excellent season in 1986. See here and here? How about his younger brother Tim? Was he much of a reliever?

Tim started with San Diego in 1993. He just couldn't cut it as a starter. Worrell was 2-7 that year in 16 starts. By 1996, Tim started just 11 games, relieved in 39 others. His results improved: 9-7, 3.05 ERA! Alas, 1997 Tim slipped back to 4-8 with a 5.16 ERA. Would he ever make it?

Tim got the ERA below three in 2000 (2.99), but he could go only 5-6 with the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs. Two years later with San Francisco, Tim put together an 8-2 seasons with a 2.25 ERA. He was getting there!

The Giants then gave him a chance to close the next season. Worrell responded to the challenge, putting together a season that makes it's way on to my list!
