Ken Daley was yet another member of the 1985 St. Louis Cardinals' bullpen that was instrumental in getting 'em to within one game of a World Series title that year. Two years later, Daley again helped the Cards to within a game of winning the Fall Classic.
Ken had pitched in the bigs since 1982, the same year St. Louis won it all. But Daley was pitching for Atlanta. There, he struggled: 5-6 as a starter / reliever that year, 4.54 ERA! Things didn't get much better the next two seasons, even after a trade to St. Louis. In Ken's only three appearances for the Cardinals in 1984, his ERA was 18.00!
But then came 1985!
Like the rest of the Cards 'pen that year, Daley delivered: 4-4, 2.76 ERA and 11 saves (The first eleven saves of his career). 1986 was a little disappointing, 0-3, 3.26 ERA and just 3 saves. But 1987 was awesome!
Ken Daley upped his win total to a career-high 9 as St. Louis won the pennant for the third time in the decade.
