Down Went The Batters Against Scott In 2011, Part 1

Scott Downs played on my team, the Toronto Blue Jays, from 2005 to 2010. Before that, he pitched for the Montreal Expos from 2000-2004.

Downs had limited success as a starter. By 2006, he started just five games for the Blue Jays. His 54 other appearances were in relief and Scott finished thirteen of them. Downs posted a 6-2 record that season. He'd found his proper spot.

His ERA was 4.09 in 2006, but Scott dropped it to 2.17 the next year, and led the American League in appearances with 81, all of them starts. He was in the bullpen for good. Although 0-3 in in 2008, Downs dropped his ERA to a microscopic 1.78. Can you believe that ended up being merely Scott's second best ERA?

Moving on to the Los Angeles Angels in 2011, Scott Downs had the career year. He tied his career-high with six wins (Losing only three) in sixty appearances. Though he finished only ten of his appearances, Scott found other ways to contribute. The opposition manages just 6.5 hits off Downs per 9 innings.
