Oberg Is Enjoying Life With The Rockies, Part 1

Scott Oberg was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2012. Just three years later he was in the bigs. And soon, Scott was among the best of the bullpen.

Used exclusively as a reliever in the minors, the righty would find things no different at the Major-League level. Though he posted a great earned run average and caught the attention of the big-league club, Oberg won just one game (Against nine losses) from 2012-2014 with Grand Junction, Modesto and Tulsa.

As a rookie with the Rockies in 2015, Scott won three games, but lost four. He earned just one save but it was his first with Colorado. The problem was Oberg's ERA was around five for his first three seasons with the Colorado Rockies (5.09, 5.19, 4.94). That was the bad part. However, by appearing in 66 games that year, Scott trailed only Mike Dunn for most relief appearances on the team.

Something must have clicked in 2018. Wade Davis was the Rockies closer with 43 saves. Adam Ottavino was the setup man with 34 holds and six saves. But Davis won just three games, Ottavino six. It was Scott Oberg who was the big bullpen winner, posting a record of eight wins against just one loss. And his earned run average dropped to just 2.45! What would Scott do for an encore?

While Davis and Chad Bettis struggled, Oberg thrived. Scott's W-L record was 6-1. Davis and Bettis were the opposite, 1-6. The fifth-year man was the best man in the Rockies bullpen in 2019, finishing a career-best eighteen games.
