Romo Was One of The Family in 1979, Part 1!

The 1979 World Series winners had plenty of wood on their ball club. Willie Stargel, Dave Parker Bill Robinson and John Milner.

Their pitching was excellent. You have Bert Blyleven, John Canderleria, Bruce Kison and Jim Bibby (Who went 12-4, splitting half his 34 appearances as a starter and reliever). The bullpen had closer Ken Tekulve (10-8), Grant Jackson (8-5), Dave Roberts (5-2) and Enrique Romo (10-5).

Romo had made his big-league debut with the expansion Seattle Mariners two seasons earlier. And though his career was brief, Enrique was effective from the bullpen. Romo was only 8-10 in 58 games as a 29-year old rookie, but threw 114 1/3 innings, including three starts (The ones of Enrique's career).

Improving in 1978, went 11-7 and appeared in 56 games. But arriving in Pittsburgh in 1979, Romo appeared in a career-high 84 games, finishing 25 despite the fact that it was Tekulve who usually pitched the 9th (Or even 8th). And he was still a long reliever, pitching 129 1/3 innings in '79.
