Garvin Was Givin' Up Nothing in 1980, Part 2

So didn't I say Jerry Garvin's 1980 W-L record of 4-7 is a tad on the misleading side? Save-wise, Garvin had only eight, and blew five. But five is also the number of holds for Jerry that season.

But how about ERA? Jerry's was a splendid 2.29. His Wins Above Replacement was 3.4 that year. Remarkably, that was almost the same WAR Garvin had as a starter in 1977 (3.6). A strikeout artist he was not.

One of Garvin's specialties was his ability to pickoff baserunners. In '77, he picked off 23 runners in 244.2 IP. The next season Jerry Garvin got another five. He had two more in 1980 in just 82.2 IP.
